  NEWS OF THE MONTH

Esther Gokhale portrait and link to About Esther on the web site Looking beautiful and feeling comfortable in your body are welcome perks of primal posture. Yet, our current cultural obsession with being slender can initially inhibit people from wanting to antevert their pelvis. Many students, typically accustomed to tucking their pelvises, are worried that pelvic anteversion will cause their stomachs to stick out. In our experience, it’s actually a retroverted (tucked) pelvis that shortens the abdomen, making it feel and look bunched up.

The model on the left, above, is tucking her pelvis, and her stomach is more pronounced.

The “spare tire” that results often leads people to chronically “suck in” their bellies. Not only can this feel uncomfortable, it creates needless tension and doesn’t give a wonderful aesthetic result either.

When the back is lengthened and the pelvis is properly tipped forward, the abdomen has more room to flatten. Using your inner corset is a healthy way to channel any desire to look extra slender.

Here, I am recruiting my inner corset, which is composed of the deep abdominal and back muscles. This contraction makes my torso narrower and taller.

By repeatedly using your inner corset, both as needed and as an exercise, your deep abdominal muscle tone will improve. You won’t be tempted to hold your stomach in, and your organs will be able to function without undue stress. If you match your healthy posture habits with healthy eating habits, your abdomen will be slim and your clothes will hang gracefully.

This belly dancer lengthens and protects her spine by engaging her inner corset. This protective mechanism makes dancing, which can involve some spinal distortion, into a great workout.

Here at the Gokhale Method Institute, we are celebrating fashion this fall. We encourage you to discover the clothes in your closet that will flaunt your healthy structure and flatter your J-spine!

Cheers,
Esther

The Stretchsit® chair is born!

We are very proud to add the much-awaited Stretchsit chair to the Gokhale Method family of products. It was born in Canada yesterday - an announcement will follow with ordering details.

A franchise is born
As my many wonderful advisors have guided us, “the legal structure needs to fit the work, not the other way around.” We are currently registering as an official franchise. After casting around for the best fit, I was surprised to find that the franchise structure has the right mix of flexibility and control to allow the Gokhale Method to thrive. Individual teachers are to be the franchisees; they will be free to teach wherever and whenever they like, and there will be ongoing content and business training and guidance. We are thrilled to have discovered what kind of bird we are – and look forward to bringing this empowering work to everyone. Anyone interested in our teacher training program (franchise), please contact us at [email protected]

New hires
As a result of our reorganization, we will have a much stronger central administration than we have had in the past. We have made two new hires this month and are still looking for a marketing manager and an operations manager. We want excellence, enthusiasm for our mission, high energy and a team spirit. Interested parties, please email [email protected].

GMF the world over
We now have several “travel teachers” who will travel to your town or country to teach the GMF course. If you find eight people ready to commit to a particular weekend and are willing to help us reach out to additional people, we will send a GMF teacher to your area. Depending on the level of interest in your town, the travel teacher may spend 7-10 days there to teach a morning series, an evening series, two weekend courses, and private sessions. If you would like to recruit people for this adventure (and earn some money in the process), please contact our marketing department at [email protected]. We will supply you with e-mail templates, flyers and other materials and ideas to help introduce this life-changing work to your community. By doing so, you will improve your own body awareness and contribute to making the world a better place.

SUCCESS STORY OF THE MONTH

I had an unusual experience buying clothes a few months ago. We had just moved to Fiji and I wanted to get a nice set of local Fijian clothing. When I tried them on, they seemed not to fit well, even though the saleswoman insisted that they were the right size. "But look," I told her, "It's all scrunched up in the back!" "That's because you're not standing straight," she said. I checked and, sure enough, I had a sway. I corrected it and voila, perfect fit!
